From The Vault – If you are interested in the history of turfgrass, we are sure that you will enjoy our weekly photo library titled, “From The Turf Vault”.

Each week on our Facebook page we will be posting a photo from the past showing something interesting about turfgrass. Old photos of turf, lawns, sports played on grass and tools that have been used to maintain it will feature in the Posts. Most of the photos have been taken or collected by our staff over their many years in the industry. If you are interested in the history of turfgrass, we are sure that you will enjoy our weekly photo library titled, “From The Turf Vault”. If you have any turf related photos of historical interest we would love to see them and we encourage everyone to post them on our Facebook page. Each week we will be giving away a prize pack to one lucky “Poster”.

Our First From The Turf Vault post showed how short Moonee Valley Racetrack was mown back in 1961. The photo shows Dhaulagiri returning to the Winners stall after he won the 1961 W.S.Cox Plate. The interesting part about the photo from a turf perspective is how short the track grass is. If you take a close look at the photo you can clearly see the entire hoof of Dhaulagiri on top of the grass. Most Melbourne Racetracks these days are mown at about 100mm. How things have changed in Turf. To see the original post on Facebook click here.
